Something Resembling Knitting

A few weeks ago I traveled to Lancaster under the guise of schoolwork with a few friends. We made sure to visit the central market, but I was also (graciously) taken to a brand new yarn store, the aptly named Lancaster Yarn Shop. While there, like a magpie, I could not keep my eyes and hands off of a skein of yarn spun by a Lancaster-ite Knitty Dirty Girl. The yarn was in such contrast to my usual m.o. but I just Had. To. Have. It.

When I got home, I also had to immediately cast on. But what does someone so used to fine gauge, tightly spun Yarn-With-A-Capitol-Y knit out of 82 yards of single ply, bulky weight, tinsel-filled yarn?

I started knitting a cowl, but I soon began to realize if I have yet to knit a cowl, cowls probably just are not for me. (And lets be honest, we all know I really wanted to knit a beret, but I already have a lot of those). So, I grabbed a skein of Rowan Cocoon and started knitting again. The end result is a perfectly-sized stockinette (I was worried garter would eat length and I would run out of yarn) triangular single-row stripes little scarf thing. A scarf that, more than once, has been referred to by others as "that thing that resembles knitting."

I love it.

This was Courtney at 2:30 today. You can only imagine what 7:04 feels like.

(We finally got our yarn).

hey, nice cardigan!
the kerchief looks like a great deal of fun to make and wear. rowan cocoon seems like awfully nice stuff and your bulky stripy little triangle is very inspiring.

I love it. That yarn is spectacular and I think you chose the perfect yarn for it. Is there a way to comment using another type of account besides Google/Blogger? I usually leave comments through my Wordpress account.

How did you do single row stripes? Double rows I can picture, but in my head you have to be working in the round to work single row stripes - otherwise isn't the yarn always at the wrong end of the row when you want to change yarns?

Am I being totally stupid?
